The President called the meeting to order at 6:34pm.
Discussions:
Approve Minutes – Diane
A motion was made to approve the minutes of the September 24, 2025, meeting. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Noel and seconded by Sheldon. The motion was voted on and approved.
Diane will post the minutes to the forum for membership.
Financials – Lance
September 2025 -The main income for September was the Camp Korey and Enumclaw events. There were expenses for the head judges at Korey and Enumclaw, and a deposit for the annual meeting banquet. One pitmaster class rebate was redeemed.
The PNWBA’s charity status was renewed with the State of Washington, Secretary of State’s office.
Events Committee
Enumclaw – The attendance by the public was close to the same as last year, even with the bridge closure making it difficult to access Enumclaw. The King County Health Department was challenging to work with, and there were new health inspectors who were unfamiliar with BBQ contests. The Health Dept was charging by the hour, and next year we need to work on how to mitigate the number of hours that they need to charge the organizers for. There may be some changes to the vending next year in order to keep the event at break even for the organizer.
Sumpter, OR – The organizer was very enthusiastic about the event. There were 5 teams who participated, 2 pro and 3 backyard. The venue was nice, and they will likely submit a sanctioning agreement for next year, probably as a 3-meat backyard style event.
2026 Events preview – Lynden will be April 25-26th. Spring Fair will probably be the 1st weekend of the fair, April 10-12, but the dates have not yet been confirmed. Berry Dairy Days in Mt. Vernon will be June 20-21. They would like teams to sample on both days for 2026.
Bill reminded the board that we need to discuss and vote on each backyard event, cooking class, and other non-standard event in terms of the expenses, format, time, personnel, and volunteers.
Clearwater/Annual Meeting – planning is well underway, and if any of the committees have reports for 2025, they need to get them to Bill by November 2nd. If you have pictures of events in 2025, you can upload them to the board google drive. There was a request for more desserts for the dessert auction.
New Business -
The November board meeting will be at the Clearwater Casino, Suquamish, WA on November 8th, and there will be a December meeting sometime in mid-December.
Adjourn:
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Sheldon at 8:00pm and seconded by Christina. The motion was voted on and approved, and the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be in person on November 8th, at 6:00pm at the Clearwater Casino.
