    Financial – Lance

Lance presented the Treasurer’s Reports for December 2022 and January 2023.  After discussion, the board approved the reports.

    President’s Welcome Message:

Jane requested that the board members complete and return the Board Member Agreement to Diane.

    Committee Reports:

    Sanctioning

Sanctioning application for Cattle Baron’s BBQ, Pendleton, OR– Bill S.
No major changes from last year.  A one day, 3 meat contest with the categories consisting of tri-tip (supplied), chicken (not supplied), and baby back ribs (supplied). $5,000 prize pool, $100 entry fee.

A motion to approve sanctioning the contest was made by Lance R., and seconded by Eric M. The motion was voted on and approved.

    Finance Committee

Lance reported that he successfully transitioned the accounting records from QuickBooks desktop to QuickBooks online.

    Competition Rules Committee

Diane presented a new pork rule definition for the 2023 season.
    Pork would be defined as:
“Whole shoulder, picnic, Boston butt, (aka pork butt, Boston Roast), pork collar (aka cellar trim, close trim butt).
NO pork top loin roasts or pork tenderloin roasts are allowed.”

The pork category can be turned in sliced or chopped, pulled, or cubed.

A motion was made by Lance, and seconded by Chris K. The motion was voted on and approved.
The new cook’s rules for 2023 will be posted online shortly.

    Events Committee

Event Reps – Event reps were recruited for the contests without a current rep.

    Training Committee

Karen S. is looking for sites for BBQ and judging classes.  The different styles of BBQ classes were discussed, and the members favored the “hands on” type of class, rather than just the listening and watching a demonstration style of class.
An email will be sent out to the membership seeking their help in finding locations to hold the classes.

    Previously Sanctioned Events Update

    Spring Fair –Bill S.
The issue with parking for the judges was discussed, and they will probably be parking in the Blue Gate lot.
Sampling will be split 60% to the teams, and 40% to the Fair, but 8% of the 40% will be given to the PNWBA to cover the health department fees, sales tax, trophies/ribbons, and the merchant discount on the credit card sales.
There will be some Friday sampling spots available for 2-3 teams.

    Camp Korey – Jane B.
There will be a change in the location of the cook site at the camp. There will be a modest fee for the accommodations, and there will be better, more reliable power available this year.  The organizer will also invest in outside advertising to bring in more public to the event.

    New Business

Diane requested that the association announce that there is a TOY race for 2023, and the that the rules, and which level of contests will be included in the race will be made clear before the 2023 contests begin.
Eric M. agreed to take on the task of keeping track of the standings throughout the season and publishing the standings periodically.
A motion was made to include the “lite” or one day events in TOY, as long as the categories included beef, chicken, and pork or ribs.  The motion was seconded, and it was voted on and approved.

    Old Business

Canadian Hall of Fame Awards – Jane gave an update on the Canadian members of the association who were previously voted into the PNWBA Hall of Fame receiving their awards.
