Hi All,

Slap Yo Daddy BBQ will be competing in our first PNWBA contest in Langley (maybe even Yakima). Who can I direct any rules questions to?
I have a question regarding whether pre-trimming meat is allowed. The rule states, no preparation is allowed until the meat is inspected. Does that include trimming?

Also, can a team share another team's generator? There is no specific language prohibiting it so unless I'm told otherwise, I assume it is ok?

That's it for now,

Benny

It is my understanding that pre trimming of meats is allowed unless specifically noted not to as in the recent Birch Bay comp. I'm sure sharing of a generator is not a problem. Judge Jenny is the guru, I'm sure she will chime in. Look forward to seeing you at our friendly little comps :-).

Hey Benny.

You are absolutely allowed to trim your meats prior to the event. Only marinating, seasoning, or otherwise altering the flavor or texture of the meat is prohibited before meat inspection (hmmm...that might be a good way to rephrase the published rules...). As Brad said, we have 2 events (both in northwestern Washington) where we sample and the local health code prohibits pretrimming.

As far as generators go, share and enjoy. The only rule we have is that the generator is QUIET, so as not to disturb the event quiet hours. Oh, and for safety's sake, we would like to avoid having extension cords stretched all over the competition area.

If you have any other questions, you can post here on the forum, or feel free to contact any of our head judges (Christene and Stacia are our Master judges and are board members listed on the "Contact Us" page) or myself (also listed...)

Look forward to meeting you!

Thanks a lot. I'll probably have more questions as I get further into the rules and look at turn-in boxes.
