I've been chewing on the website redesign for a few months now. Data modeling lots of data needed to make things happen and batting around the workflow processes.
There is no preview ready yet.
Already in the pipe: >>New front end >>New forum software (DONE) >>New event management feature >>New event page with registration workflows >>New BBQ teams page and registration workflow
Feature requests >>Track event judging counts >>Facebook events for BBQ events >>Event announcements via Twitter & Facebook >>Event RSS feed >>Online dues payment >>Recipie page >>BoD Messaging >>Ad space >>Real names in forums >>Location information >>Monthly Calendar of Events >>Ongoing display of Overall,TOTY, meats scoring >>"Like" or "Thanks" button/link for posts >>Wiki style articles on BBQ. Like a FAQ but more of a knowledge base for backyard cooks to new BBQ teams. >>An app that allows a user to input an address or use their gps as a location and then sort all upcoming events in order of distance from that location. >>Map all known PNWBA events from the user's location or given address. >>Craigslist feed relevent to user's city/state for keyword items. >>Online event sanctioning application and payment >>Suggestion/Comment box form
So I have arrived at a few open questions to the membership:
How can I make this website better serve you?
What features in this site would you like?
btw, if there is a graphics designer in the house that is willing to do some graphic design work please contact me. Needs are mainly static png files with transparent backgrounds. A few texture files.

I am curious why so much personal information is required to use the forum. Most forums require only a user name, e-mail, and password. I'm thinking it may be a deterrent to some folks who are lurking with questions or comments but do not want to give too much information about themselves. Just a thought... |

Forum additions: (for consideration) An association business page where minutes of BoD mtgs & annual mtgs could be posted along with discussions about the business side of the assoc such as by laws, dues, proposals such as rules changes, etc. When the board considers changes, they could toss em up and see what the members thoughts are. No waiting for the annual mtg. Pull the Recipes page into the forum. I'll bet it would get a lot more attention. When we see something new has been posted, we'll know and check it out. I'm betting it will also engender more contributions. Encourage everyone's snapshot from events and other BBQ related places and faces. Try to corral all the Event related news, etc on the right forum page. That would take a monitoring webmaster. On-line competition registration!!! On-line dues payment. A data center where we can go to see OUR OWN info such as when our membership expires, perhaps competition result data - individual data, that is...year over year, that sort of stuff. Perhaps our profile page or some such "location". A secret camera into JD's garage kitchen where he creates his secrets to make the perfect BBQ. So, we can determine which psychohallucigenic drug he's sprinkling into all his rubs to mesmerize the judges. "Oh, you mad, mad, mad scientist-chef, you!"
OK OK I guess I'm getting tired. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute and thanks for the work to make it an even MORE effective web presence for this super bunch of folks.

Thanks for all your time put into this Bryan!
Looking around at other BBQ organization websites the majority of them SUCK compared to the PNWBA site, most do not have a Forum and if they do they are Yahoo Group boards which SUCK even more!
Some things that I would like to see in the new site are:
A working PM/E-mail between members
Lose the anonymity handles or include your full name in the signatures
Since our members are scattered over 5 Western states and 3 Canadian Provinces it should be required to state where we live.
Monthly Calendar of Events
The Roll Calls and the Events Forums are Cluster%&*$ and should be moderated better or divided into sub forums

We have it pretty good compared to some of these organizations! Thanks again!

Michael: That is an option availiable to the event organizers. Some events elect to have the PNWBA collect fees others prefer to handle the money themselves.
More information on the sanctioning options availiable can be found in the Sanctionig information package at http://www.pnwba.com/Sanctioning/2011%20PNWBA%20Sanctioning%20Information.pdf
Edit: Just to be clear, these are business rules. Technically it is possible to have all payments channeled through PayPal, CC, or Dwolla. It would require action by the BoD to change the business rules here. Thank you for your feedback. |

Michael, there have been delays with the new forum software for a few different reasons. GoDaddy had some technical issues with .Net 4.0 that have been resolved. I am chewing on the new user registration to increase security and deter spammers/bots while still keeping a fairly low bar to entry. Some of this has involved alteration of the new forum software's source code which requires a bit of testing. I am reminded of this quite frequently when I review the list of spammers wanting access to this forum so they can spam everyone here with all kinds of stuff.
It is coming Michael. It is coming. |

| I ran into some technically limiting issue with our current web hosting service. So I have taken a step back and am moving ahead in a different direction with a different company with a whole different environment. Fortunately I have not one, but two rock stars helping me. I have a project in he works for the skewered apple comp that needs to be completed first. |
