Hello to all competing at Showdown in Juarez Canyon,

Teams entering all 4 side categories will get a $25 rebate plus be placed into a drawing for next year’s entry fee. Juarez Canyon goodie bags for all teams. Friday load in possible, let us know and we'll coordinate as spaces become assigned.

Side 1—Anything Pasta, Side 2—Anything w/Bacon (a favorite), Side 3—Bud Best Burger, and Side 4—Dessert (can be prepped off site). Bacon will be provided by Pacific Seafood and Juarez Canyon will provide Ground Chuck for burgers.

Western Beverage will be donating some very nice prizes for the top three places in the Bud Best Burger category in addition to our prize money. This year The World Food Championships are making our Bacon and Dessert categories qualifiers for their event. And this year we will pay our 1st Place Chili and Salsa winners $100 each, plus prizes for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Teams are also welcome to join in the Chili and Salsa competition if they desire.

Our Saturday Sponsor Night for sponsors and invited guests (prospective new donors) is what drives our charity event and is making it grow. So we are trying to make it a very special evening this year. We picked up 5 new sponsors from last year's event and that's because of all the great teams that competed in the side categories and shared their extras on Sponsor Night plus sampled their BBQ on Sunday's main Patron Day.

We'll have tables set up with team names for you to bring any extra samples from each side category after turn-in. Our sponsors are the guest side category judges, but not all can judge so it's great for those not judging to get a taste of your creations.

There will be a catered Olive Garden buffet dinner for teams on Saturday evening and a Biscuits and Gravy with Waffles breakfast Sunday morning. Rae Gordon will be back performing on Saturday from about 6-9:30 PM. We'll tap a keg about noon Friday for set up and a couple more on Saturday after the cooks meeting.

Western Beverage liked our video last year and has asked us to add some Bud Props to this year's video so they can send it back to Anheuser-Bush. We hope all teams will join in when our video person comes around, so get a little crazy with something fun to show the grandkids!

We have a very special Guest Team coming this year. Harry Soo (Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ) out of Southern California will be joining us. We hope you'll give him a Northwest welcome; it will be great having a Pitmasters Champion here for you to visit with.

Juarez Canyon wants to thank all of the teams that have come to our event over the last seven years. I have never tasted anything but Championship BBQ from all of you and we look forward to seeing you again this Labor Day. And maybe, just maybe, Mother Nature will give us a sunny weekend!

Jim & Jean Cisneros, your hosts from Juarez Canyon

How big are the team spots? Is there enough room for me to put up a small tent for family?

Eric, The site space is limited. I can't remember what you cook on, how much space do you think you could fit into at minimum?

I can fit into whatever size site my fees paid for. :)
I didn't see it listed on the flyer (maybe I missed it) so I was curious how tight the space is on this venue. I can do 20x20. I just wondered it there was room to put up another little 4 man style tent. Sounds like you answered my question. Thank you.

This gets me back into the old discussion of teams paying per sf of site. I guess I should buy a big trailer so my $ go further since it is a flat fee. I digress...

Eric M, Yes we can fit you into a space that will hold an extra tent.

Dan J, Have you down for Friday load in.

Soon Jim will let us know about how much Bacon and Ground Chuck he will supply teams with and the Head Judge will post the rules for the Saturday Sponsor Night side categories.

Joe Tucker and I will get a hold of all the teams to double check on their requirements to assign spaces and plan for any early load ins.

I think I'm tasked with making the pasta. Since we are flying in, can I borrow someone's pot, strainer, heating element to boil water, and a plate for presentation? Thank you in advance.

Hello G-Pa D's, thank you so much. I'm just doing pasta and dessert so its okay if we aren't right next to each other. Besides, I'm use to cooking as a separate team from Harry so maybe some away time would encourage team harmony.

We are cooking under his banner in Lubbock, TX this weekend. If we can actually make it through Lubbock, we may not, then PDX will be a breath of fresh air. Are there any BBQ marriage counselors in the PNWBA available?

You'll find plenty of them around the cook area, usually after the sun goes down ;)

Question for all that have been to Juarez:

Is there wifi? and do you get cell coverage?

It is crucial to my decision on side categories. Thank you.
