Stumptown 2012 BBQ Smoke-off Whitefish, MT
Welcome to the 2012 Stumptown BBQ Smoke Off! Join us from Friday, August 17th through Sunday, August 19th at Depot Park in Whitefish, Montana, where some of the best BBQ pitmasters, both professional and amateur, in the Flathead Valley, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond, will compete for $8,000 worth of cash and prizes. In addition to this award winning competition, there will be plenty of fun for the entire family, including live music, children's activity, a hog calling contest and (of course) the infamous Miss Piggy contest! As is our tradition, a portion of the proceeds of this event will go to the North Valley Food Bank of Whitefish. The Stumptown 2012 BBQ Smoke-off at Depot Park in beautiful Whitefish, MT is presented by Piggyback BBQ and was featured on Delish as one of the Best Barbecue Festivals in the U.S. Visit our website.
PRIZES: $8,000 Prize Money! See Payout Schedule below.
DATE: Friday August 17th through Sunday August 19th
LOCATION: Depot Park, 510 Railway St, Whitefish, Montana Get directions.
TEAM LOAD-IN: Friday, August 17th at 12:00 Noon. Teams must be set up and ready by 10:00 AM Saturday August 18th.
AMENITIES: Competitors will have a minimum 15’x20’ space, possibly larger. Teams will have access to running water, garbage bin, ice, disposal of ash, grease and liquid waste, portable toilets, security and electricity. Contestants are responsible for their own electrical cords, wood, charcoal and sleeping arrangements. Limited RV parking nearby, first come first choice. Local dining & lodging.
VENDING: Share some of your award winning BBQ and make a little extra cash. We have a limited number of vending spots for those teams wishing to sell BBQ, water and your secret sauces and rubs (Piggyback will be selling pop, beer & wine). Competitors who plan to provide food to the public must be approved by Environmental Health Services in Kalispell, MT. This is a requirement regardless of whether you sell or you give your food. The deadline is August 10th for turning in your form for vending approval from Environmental Health Services. A required 20% of the gross sales will be collected by Stumptown BBQ Smoke Off and go to the North Valley Food Bank of Whitefish. Please see the Food Vendor Information & Form. Vendor information.
CHEF’S CHOICE: Think you're master of the grill? Show us what you've got in our Montana Huckleberry chef's choice category. Let your creative juices flow...anything goes as long as it uses huckleberries, huckleberry jam or huckleberry BBQ sauce and is cooked onsite. Open garnish with turn-in tray no larger than 18"x18". Huckleberries are available at local roadside stands and stores. $50 goes to the winner and ribbons to 3rd place.
FLATHEAD CHERRY DESSERT CONTEST & AUCTION: Open to the public! Show us your best dessert using Flathead cherries and help us raise money for the North Valley Food Bank. Bake two desserts and we'll judge one and auction off the other with 100% of the proceeds going to the food bank. Flathead cherries are available at local roadside stands and stores. $50 goes to the winner and ribbons to 3rd place.
OTHER FUN STUFF: The Stumptown BBQ Smoke Off is a fun filled weekend for the entire family! Pig races, remote control boat races on the Depot Park pond, Flathead cherry desert contest, hog calling contest, Miss Piggy contest (youth & adult) and live music all weekend long from The Dave Walker Band, Craig Wickham Band, Reverend Slanky, Kenney James Miller Band, Christian Johnson, Moonshine Mountain and Andre Floyd just to name a few.
Plan a few extra days and stay awhile. Whitefish is a year round playground located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains along the shores of Whitefish Lake. It is just minutes from one of Montana's largest winter/summer resorts, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and about 25 miles west of Glacier National Park.

Okay guys, here is the one to beat?
Greg of BBQ Grillfriends (formerly with Smokin' Hot Grillfriends) was the 2010 Stumptown BBQ Smoke-off Grand Champion with a 1st in brisket and 1st in chicken.
Glad to have you Greg, rest up, Brett says your going to have to work harder this time to take home the gold.

| It was a great time, Angie. We had a blast, what a great event. In fact, just for the venues in Montana, I think that whole state has a chance of really creating quite the draw moving forward. I was honored to have had the chance to cook with Upnsmokin' and the BC2 boys. Always learn something new. |
