Are there any other teams that are still considering coming to Southern Oregon for the The Battle of the Bones? This will be our 7th annual event, but the first time being sanctioned by PNWBA. There is a prize pool of over $10,000 in cash and prizes.
We were hoping to get a better responce from PNWBA teams - we have 6 local teams and 1 PNWBA team signed up at this time with the deadline right around the corner. We would still like to try to get 15 teams to make this event a qualifier!
If you are in Oregon, Northern California, Nevada, Idaho or Washington and are not headed up to BC, please consider our event. All proceeds go to our Parks Foundation!
There is a compulsory people’s choice where we provide all of the Pork and Chicken along with some meat for the Chili. Althought it is a lot of work, it is a guaranteed fun time for your entire family and is very rewarding!
Battle of the Bones also has free entry to the event, free parking, live music, and free kids activities, along with a craft beer and wine competition.

| I would have seriously considering competing but the requirement to cook all that meat and to have a team for serving made it impossible to participate this year |

| It's really enticing since we live only 80 miles away but we've read the conditions and can't pull it off. The "cook a ton of meat for People's Choice" has been the downfall of that event since its inception. |

We are making every effort to support Oregon events this year. I grew up in Grants Pass and I appreciate this community. My heart would like to do it, but the cook is too much for our capacity. No way to both cook that much meat and also compete.

Thank you for your feedback! We are unique with our type of People's Choice competition. We split the meat amoung the teams, so the more teams, the less meat per team. It still looks like at this point it will be about 300 lbs of Pork for Saturday and 250 lbs of Chicken for Sunday.
Food for thought...I do have people that contact me about wanting to "get their feet wet" in the competition and are interested in helping a team who is signed up. Most teams so far have their teams set though.

| I know that the Battle of the Bones are asking alot from teams. But it seems to me that alot of the teams around want to do the big money contests and this one IS A BIG MONEY CONTEST. I spoke with Sarah yesterday and she said that since being sanctioned with the PNWBA that they have only picked up one or two new teams this year from this association. Thats sad in my opinion. I hope that some of the teams thinking about this contest will step up and compete. I know Sarah will extend the deadline a little to help bring the team count up. |

I am hoping some of our members - who are capable of handling the extra peoples choice meats - will choose to participate in this event. It sounds like the locals are very supportive, look forward to and have a great time at this event.
I believe our cooks thoroughly enjoy their hobby and love of BBQ conquers all. However, should you be for the "big money" contests as Kodey pointed out, perhaps some quick math helps...
Purse - $10,000 Pays to - 6th place Current teams signed up - 7
If I could do anything beyond boiling water, I'd be motivated...

| I'm weighing my options. My downfall right now is I do not have the ability to cook 200+ pounds of meat! |

This seems like the perfect competition to get some teams to join forces and create super teams? Just a thought...
We have seen it before for smaller prize pools and it is also becoming a popular trend accross the country. |

Same here. We have a large bbq device capable of cooking 300lbs or more. But ours is a team of three people. Relatively new to competition. We had scheduled ourselves for battle of the bones, but the requirement to cook that much meat and serve it, while turning in our competition product to judges, was more than we thought we could handle. The pulled pork seemed doable. But that much chicken seemed overwhelming. We didn't want to let anyone down. So we'll likely come down to attend the event to see how other teams handle it this year.

Have you tried fishing for CBBQA Northern California teams?
I saw some biga$$ pits in San Jose and a lot of teams are set up for vending and People Choice, but the distance they may travel is the same as many of us. |
