BRING YOUR FOOD HANDLER'S CARDS!!!

One of the PNWBA's favorite locations for a BBQ comp, Stan Hedwall Park in Chehalis, will again be the site for the Cascade Country Cook-off (CCC) this July.

The same outstanding promotors, Frank and Judy DeVaul, are behind this event, yet again. We'll enjoy their warm hospitality one more time.

The location of the park is just off I-5 at exit 176, then follow the signs. It's VERY close and convenient.

Load-in will start Friday at 5pm and end Saturday at 10am. Why? Because that's when the Car Show is open to the public and we need to have all our vehicles out of the park by that time. Load-out can commence after the awards ceremony on Sunday. Meaning, that's when we can bring vehicles back into the competition area. By the way, the earlier you load in, the closer you can park.

We'll be naming a hotel offering discount rooms, very soon but we believe it will be one exit to the north - details when we have 'em.
In Chehalis – Holiday Inn Express – 360-740-1800, approx $114.00 per night – very nice new facility, free breakfast, pool, gym. Tell them you're coming for the "Cascade Car Show" and their code is "Block Code CCS".
In Centralia – Ferryman’s Inn and Suites – 1-800-977-2094. Ferryman’s is farther away – only about 6 miles from the park, but is newly remodeled and is approx $45.99 per night – what a deal! Both have discounted blocks of rooms set aside! Yay!
DON'T DELAY!

By the way, at the hotel or ANYWHERE you happen to spend your money in the local area that weekend PLEASE mention that you are in town for the Cascade County Cook-off. That is a serious request and it WILL make a difference for our future events there - Thanks.

So, what's to do Saturday? We are bringing BBQ cooks and Chili cooks together, in a way we can ALL participate in.
Some are put off by CASI or Tolbert rules and restictions in making chili but the really fun way around that is what we'll take that Saturday. It's a HOMESTYLE Chili Cook-off which means basically ... ANYTHING GOES! That's right, if you want beans - you add beans. If you're from Cincinatti - it's spaghetti. If you want Tofu - yuuuch! It's time to make YOUR favorite Chili and these are not professionally trained or certified chili judges. These are folks who like chili! So, WOW 'em! No public sampling. So, you don't have to make that much. A $15 entry get's your chili in and unlike many chili comps, there's prize money, too!The Chili prize fund is $500 paid to 6 places! For a chili comp that's huge!

The Cooks Meeting for Chili and BBQ alike is set for 2:00 pm Saturday. Chili Turn-In is 5:00 and Awards are at 6:00pm.

Did we mention that each site will be 20x30? Yep. (Need larger, just let me know.) We'll keep load-in simple and site you as you arrive. All the ameneties are available, restrooms, plenty of power (bring plenty of extension cordage), all the disposals you'll need, garbage pick-up, they'll have a "no-mark-up" ice delivery and it's all in a beautiful, tree lined, grassy park! Really comfortable and roomy, too. 25 cent showers are available to our folks still within the park at their RV campground where several of us are staying.
If you want the comforts of an RV, in the same huge park, there is an RV camp with power and water and more restrooms. It's a stroll of a few minutes from our site. Ever bring bikes with your RV? That would be perfect! The best part is that it's only $15 a nite! A steal. But contact Chehalis Parks at 360-748-0271 to make your reservation, today! Tell them you are with the Cascade Country Cook-off, or the BBQ event because they have sites reserved for us. (Don't delay. Remember, the folks with the Car Show will be staying there, too.)

Do I need my fire extinguisher? Yes
Do I need a hand washing station? Yes
Do I need a 3-tub dish washing set up? Yes
Do I need to review the Lewis County Dept of Health, Temporary Food Establishment info on-line? ( http://lewiscountywa.gov/food-safety-program ) Yes - especially if you are sampling out Sunday. If you are sampling out, please consider accepting the extra pork provided by our hosts. It will be available to those intending to sample to the public on Sunday. (By the way, no sampling of chicken to the public.) So, please let me know if you are or are not sampling for charity, on Sunday. We really do encourage you to. Thanks!

POT LUCK POT LUCK POT LUCK Dinner Saturday - 8pm. Let's make it fun. Bring whatever you want but let us know on your application WHAT you will donate, please. So, we don't end up with 14 salads and one entree. Thanks.

That Saturday we're offering both the Pitmaster Cooking Class and the PNWBA Judging Class right there at the park. Registration forms are available here on our website. Take 'em yourself? Encourage your friends!

Our BBQ Prize money is $5,000 (Plus the $500 for Chili)
$1000 GC
$800 RGC
1st $300 for any meat category
2nd $200
3rd $100
4th $75
5th $50
6th $40
7th $35

Want more info? Keep an eye on the host's website at www.cascadecookoff.com You'll find maps there and an address to punch into your GPS, if you like.

This is a family environment. So, we'll ask that the use of alcohol be in compliance with the law and in moderation. QUIET HOURS will be in force. Please respect your neighbors.

I think I heard Judy whispering something about Sunday morning coffee and...something else...

If you need a fire extinguisher recertified, please let me know. If we have a few in need, we have a service who will come to the park to take care of that for you for only $15 per unit.

How about smoke woods? Are you in need? Would you like us to have a supplier come visit? Just let me know but please, not at the last minute - thanks.

Well, that's about that. Scott Harper and I are coordinating on behalf of the Association and Jenny Beesler will be your Head Judge.

At the event in 2010 it was 104 degrees. 2011, it rained. So, we must be due for good weather, again. The grassy, shady park will be a wonderful place to enjoy it. There's not a hot, paved parking lot anywhere in sight!

Come join us for the CASCADE COUNTRY COOK OFF!

Help us plan by registering TODAY! Thanks.[/u]

An entree of your choosing would be my suggestion at this point - thanks for asking.

Wow, Tombstone had this one locked up in the bag, didn't know what happened until I just looked at the results.

What happened to your Pork Butt? Did you have the county officials in your tent 10 mins prior to turn in to inspect your pit and talk to you? :) Great job though in the other categories, wow!
