Team registrations are starting to roll in....
The Big Red Barn Burner presented by Well Seasoned
Saturday March 24th & Sunday March 25th
Location: Chilliwack Heritage Park in Chilliwack,BC www.chilliwackheritagepark.com (about 20 minutes north east of the Sumas Border crossing into Canada)
Minimum guarantee $5,000 prize money Trophies/ribbons/cash for top 10
This is a first year event & will require 15 teams to be a qualifier.
The BBQ contest is part of a trade show going on that weekend - the Yard, Garden & Home Renovation Show that draws alot of people from the area. It's being hosted in a great facility with plenty of room for you, your RV & all of your gear. There is lots of power, great bathrooms with HOT showers and plenty of "amenities"

NEWS FLASH!
There will be a Chef's Choice component at this event. Our sponsor Fantasy Farms - the fantastic folks putting up the prize money for this event also produce the Chilliwack Garlic Festival. http://www.fantasyfarmsinc.ca
They will be providing each team with a whole bunch (or as Lynnae would say - an ass ton) of locally grown fresh, raw garlic... Your mission is to turn that into something delicious! You can literally, do anything you want.
The garlic will be delivered to the teams on Saturday morning and the turn in time is 3:30pm on Saturday. There are no limitations to this category other than your tray cannot be bigger than 24x24. (standard PNWBA rules apply of course) and your submission must be prepared on site.
Put your thinking caps on folks and break out the breath mints...let's have some fun.
Prizes will be paid out as follows;(this is over & above, not included in the main prize money total) Ribbons 4th - 10th place 3rd place - $100 + trophy 2nd place - $150 + trophy 1st place - $250 + trophy/bragging rights

CROSSING INTO CANADA FROM THE US
Hey guys,
Angie and I are excited to have you. Here is some information to help make your trip across the border quick and easy.
WHAT CAN I BRING OR NOT BRING INTO CANADA 1. You cannot bring firearms, bear spray, drugs, etc. across the border. 2. You are allowed 20 kilograms (44lbs) of meat per person. 3. If you are bringing ANY wood into the country it must NOT have bark on it. They will have you turn around and dispose of it if you try to cross with it. 4. You can bring a limited amount of alcohol without paying duty. You can bring ONE of the following: • 1.5 litres (50.7 US ounces) of wine, including wine coolers over 0.5 percent alcohol, or • 1.14 litres (38.5 US ounces) of liquor, or • a total of 1.14 litres (38.5 US ounces) of wine and liquor, or • 24 x 355 millilitre (12 ounce) cans or bottles of beer or ale, including beer coolers over 0.5 percent alcohol (a maximum of 8.5 litres or 287.4 US ounces).

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE BOARDER When you pull up to the Canada Border Agent’s window, roll down all the windows so that they can easily see into your vehicle. Hand them your passport and shut off the engine if you drive a noisy diesel like me.
You can expect any of the following questions from the Canada Border Agents, it is best to keep your answers short and simple and be polite:
Q: Where are you going? A: The Big Red Barn at Heritage Park in Chilliwack.
Q: What is your reason for coming to Canada? A: I am competing in a BBQ contest.
Q: Will you be paid or what do you get if you win? A: Trophy and bragging rights. (If you tell them you might receive money they could require you to get a work permit before allowing you entry into Canada)
Q: What are you bringing with you that will REMAIN in Canada? A: Nothing.
Q: What items are you bringing with you into Canada? A: BBQs, cooking equipment, meat, sleeping gear and personal clothes and belongings. (List everything you are bringing)
It is possible you could be pulled aside and your vehicle inspected, they do this randomly on both sides of the boarder. It’s not a big deal; they just want to be sure you are not bringing in prohibited items.

Angie/David- Do you have any knowledge of the availability of electricity at the site yet? I just need about 5 minutes worth on Saturday, and I can walk (reasonably) to plug into it, to do some prep for the garlic entry. Thanks, Diane

We will have electricity available on site to run lights and pit controllers. We'll run it as close as we can but you may want to bring a several feet of cord with you to make the run from the power box to your site.

Thanks David! Always a great reminder. Also if you're wearing sunglasses, they will ask you to remove them for a sec. Don't try to be funny with them, they really have very little sense of humor....it's worse coming back to the US. :) |
