Wow...lots of rules for this one!

Cooking supplies (examples: sauces, rubs, means to keep meat at appropriate temperatures, capacity to cook up to 150 lbs of meat at one time, sanitation supplies)

Each team must supply one team member to punch taste
tickets. This person will be working at another team’s booth
to promote sportsmanship in the PC competition.

Those two will keep us out...bummer! Good luck to all who enter!

I don't see anything on their website about it being sanctioned by the PNWBA and until it has been approved by the board, it doesn't happen. Looking at last year's info it was sanctioned by KCBS.

Cart before the horse?

Right on their main page . . . . . 2012 will be the first year that our barbecue event is sanctioned! Battle of the Bones will be the same great event that the public has experienced in the past; however, we will now be backed by an established barbecue association, Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association (PNWBA)! PNWBA will enforce the rules for the barbecue teams and will assure that all judging is performed consistently with their established barbecue standards. The competition is about to get more fierce!

Cart before the horse for sure. Like Angie said, until its approved by the BOD it aint happening and this is the 1st I have heard of this event.

"capacity to cook up to 150 lbs of meat at one time"....Guess I'll have to build a 360 gallon UDS for this one. Anyone got a 96" Weber cooking grate?

I would like to see this event get off the ground but on different weekend. Is this the same weekend as Aloha? It sounds as though they are just starting the process. Best of luck I hope I can make it down there.

Has anyone participated in any of the past BOB events? Rogue BBQ is the only team name I recognize. Looks like only 8 teams cooked it last year. They might want to troll for Northern California teams on the CBBQA site.

The Battle of the Bone is working with me and is in the process of putting in an application to be presented to the Board. It will be considered in the same manner of all event applications including considerations such as potential conflicts and similar.

It is not sanctioned at this point by PNWBA. But the date is fixed and will be going ahead and you can consider it along with other PNWBA, KCBS and community competitions.

Battle of the Bones competed against the contest in Grants Pass a couple of years ago. Similar format. We cooked Grants Pass in '09. Lot of work to please the crowd and compete. Contest then was KCBS. People got full of the heavy meats and the ribs and chicken went begging. Still, we counted it as a fun venue.

It looks like Aloha is moving their dates for 2012, so their competition will not be on the same dates as Battle of the Bones!

We will have our new People's Choice rules and all the information for our event published shortly, we are just waiting on approval on our rules and application from PNWBA so that we may begin signing up teams.

If you are interested and would like me to directly contact you when these are available, you may send an email to battleofthebones@gmail.com or call Sarah at (541) 423-1978.

You may also want to promote this event on the California BBQ Association (CBBQA) site. A link was posted in the General BBQ section of the Forum in January before the sanctioning was approved and it has not generated much interest. Good luck!

Only the 4 official categories from PNWBA can qualify for the overall prizes (Pork, Brisket, Ribs, Chicken). I am sorry for not clarifying this a little clearer on our payout schedule. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

As you are marking your contest calendars for the rest of the season, I just want to be sure this event is on your radar and that you consider signing up...

NEW CONTEST FOR THE PNWBA! $10,000 IN PRIZE MONEY! GC: $1,800!

These organizers would love to see a good showing by our talented PNWBA teams. They want teams who will participate in public sampling, and they'd be very happy for this year's first contest to be a QUALIFIER!

The BBQ contest is part of the larger BATTLE OF THE BONES Annual BBQ, Craft Beer, Wine and Music Festival. Proceeds from this event are used to fund youth programs and facility projects in the City of Central Point.

So... it will officially be Summer, beer and wine are somehow involved, and the prize pool is just waiting for you to dive in. What else could you want? See if you can pencil this one into your busy BBQ schedule!

I'll be there, and I'd be happy to see your smiling faces as well!

Are we still only at 8 teams total registered? You may want to canvas the norcal boards and make sure they know about it. I'm all in for a 1/8th chance at winning, but I can't imagine this not being a qualifier based on the location and payout.

Today we are at 9 teams. I do have Kodey with Home on the Range splitting his team into two and registering shortly so we will be at 11 teams. We are so close and would LOVE to have this as a qualifier! I have tried several times to reach out to California but this is the first year that I haven't had any response from them. Feel free to post and promote BOB directly to them! I missed going down and meeting people face to face this year, I will have it on my schedule for next year.

Teams, we are looking at amending our people's choice rules, so that we can get more of you here. WE NEED to hear from you on what will incentize you to come down to Central Point. Is it the distance, the amount of meat, etc? Can you please contact us here or you can contact me directly at matt.samitore@centralpointoregon.gov
