Hi Everyone,

My name is Trevor (from Coquitlam) and I've been serious about bbq ever since I got my Weber Charcoal grill years ago (maybe 4/5 years now?). My favorite things to grill are rib-eye steak, filipino marninaded chicken, ribs, and my world famous hickory smoked chili (world famous as far as I'm concerned =)).

I attended my first bbq competition this past week in Langley which was pretty cool. Although, I was disappointed because I didn't show up until around 3pm and already everyone was starting to break down their gear and hardly anyone was handing out samplers anymore. But I did stay to watch everyone win their prizes which was really cool. And it was sweet to see Harry Soo win Grand Champion. =) I had also attended Harry Soo's cooking class the previous Friday night at Well Seasoned - it was okay, but was rather disappointed that there wasn't a stronger focus on actual bbq such as pork, brisket, etc. - for some reason, that's what I thought the class was going to be. But oh well, it was so cool to meet Harry and talk to him. He's a very inspiring person to meet.

Anyway, I'd love to chat to any other locals here in the Lower Mainland who's really into bbq. I'd really like to learn about brisket and pork shoulder one day. =)

Cheers everybody! =)

Welcome!

If you're looking for classes on brisket and shoulders, I'm in the same basket. I've been smoking briskets and pork shoulders with info I've found online, but there's always more to learn. The Smoke Ring is a great source of information, but don't be afraid to Google what you are interested in. Half of the information is crap, half is pretty good, and you just take the good and the bad and make something that suits yourself and your favorite customers (in my case, it's 3 boys and my wife). It's an expensive but rewarding hobby.

ha, I have 3 boys as well - 8, 5, and 6 months. And everytime I make chili, my wife begs me to not make it so spicy so they can eat it too. But it always is because that's what makes it soooo good. =)

Anymore I have to tone down the chili for myself. Otherwise I'm a hurtin' man the next day.
