Posted - 05/09/2012 : 06:48:48 Coming up in six weeks. This is a first year event, working on Qualifier proclamation. Come out and play, beautiful setting in Kellogg, Idaho just a few miles east of Coeur d'Alene. We'd love to fill the event up with all PNWBA folks, your friends and newcomers alike. |

Posted - 07/02/2012 : 21:56:58 Thank you to everyone that participated in the event last weekend, it was a GREAT first year event. The folks at the Fuller Center (Kellogg's answer to Habitat for Humanity) couldn't have been happier to have the teams there or more accommodating. Chris Patterson, Greg Prado & Saffron Hodgson worked hard to pull this event together and deserve a round of applause.
To help subsidize expenses & hopefully make some extra money, the charity/event organizer sold tasting tickets and the teams collected the tickets as part of a "tasters choice" component of the event. I was super proud to learn that most of the teams donated their 50% of the ticket sales back to the Fuller Center, helping them raise a little bit more money at the end of the day. BBQ'ers are some awesome folks.
Congratulations to Stokin' n' Smokin' for their very first GC, to the Smoke Collective for the RGC and for Brown Chicken Brown Cow for their third place finish. Nice work everyone. Hope to see you there again next year.
PS - Tom, Kevin - the guy that lit the porta potties was very proud of his idea :)

Posted - 07/02/2012 : 08:10:47 Thanks to all who worked hard to put on this event. We had a great time and will be back next year. It is the only event that I have been to where the organizers wired shop lights into the sanicans so they were lighted at night. What a concept! |

Posted - 07/02/2012 : 07:29:05 Great to see you and Angie, Dave. I know where I made my mistakes and am coming for redemption at Cheney, Stevensville and possibly Whitefish. Chad will be back Sunday with his new trailer pit...talk about dedication, he is driving like 4600 miles this week just to go pick that monster up.
Although we had a short window to put this competition together, it was well worth it, a great time and always a positive learning experience. A new tradition was born for myself. After inspection is done and it's game on, I now will ceremoniously take a bunch of parsley and throw it on the ground in front of my pit, stomp on it and share a few choice less than complimentary words with it.
Great time, great to see all you nutjobs in this whacky bbq world. See y'all at Cheney. |

Thank you to the judges who came from as far as B.C. Canada for spending your day to help determine the best BBQ in Kellogg.
Thank you to the teams who drove from Idaho, Washington, Montana and B.C. Canada for coming out to cook, play, and help share this crazy sport of BBQ with the community and anyone who would listen.
We hope everyone had a great time, we certainly did. Thanks again to everyone who made this possible, we appreciate your support for BBQ in the Idaho/Montana area and hope to see you again real soon at Cheney, Stevensville and Whitefish.

Posted - 06/13/2012 : 12:26:48 Jerry just informed me that if the 2A40BC or 3A40BC extinguisher has a plastic head then he cannot service them but if they have a metal head he can. He may have a limited number of extinguishers that he could loan out if needed. It will be on a first come first serve basis. |

Posted - 06/13/2012 : 10:31:09 I just spoke to a gentleman that is willing to come on Friday morning on June 29th from 8 am to 10 am and certify any Fire Extinguishers that need it. As long as there are no parts that are needed to certify the Extinguisher then there will be no charge. If parts are required he said that he would be willing to do if for a small charge. The only extinguishers that he cannot do are any that are over 12 years old. They need to be Hydro tested and he cannot do that on site. He asked that I get a list of people that are interested in this service so that he has an idea on how many would like to have this done. He is donating his time and energy to do this for us. What a cool service that he is offering. Send an email to Chris.Patterson@itron.com if you are interested in this. |

Posted - 06/13/2012 : 07:55:12 Greg and I attended the meeting for this event. Here is Greg's post from the Roll Call section just in case you missed it:
OK here's a little update from tonight's meeting with regard to bbq specifics. We are going to have early load in for anyone interested in snagging a sweet spot or getting in early, on Thursday evening June 28th from 5-8pm. Friday load in starts at 6am.
We will have hot and cold water available and are currently working on setting up a cleaning station like we had at Cheney, with a couple big sinks and running hot and cold water so you don't have to do the heavy scrubs in your pit.
As an opportunity for all cooks, you will have a chance to make a few bucks back while helping the fundraiser earn some. Tickets will be sold to the public, for a dollar each. The public will then be able to hand you a ticket, should you choose to participate in sampling, therein you give them a single sample. We are splitting the revenue 50/50 with the event, so when it is all said and done you can just turn in your tickets and get your money.
I am working with the print media to get the word out this weekend, the family events are all taken care of and there will be a dance Friday night in the school gym.
There will be a dinner on Saturday night for the public, after the awards. If you have the ability to toss a couple butts on your pit to cook up for this event, it would be appreciated, meat and rub will be supplied for those who can help out. We have capacity to do this with just a couple of folks running bigger pits so it shouldn't be an issue at all.
Anything else? Please ask. |

Posted - 06/05/2012 : 04:56:05 I will get clarification from the planning committee on your questions, Tom. An Idaho food handlers card is still free to grab online, I believe. I know that they want to have sampling tickets as part of the fundraising effort and are going to ask the teams to do some butts for the public dinner. More details later today.

Posted - 06/03/2012 : 22:02:32 Thanks Tom…I was getting the same feeling. And thanks Angie for some more info. I would love to see more events in Idaho, so let's get it on!
Smoke Collective is planning on making this one, and we would love to see everyone out. This season will be my last for a few years, so we're anxious to get the fires going again. |

Posted - 06/03/2012 : 10:45:45 I have looked at their website and registration forms many times. It does not have any schedule except when the awards and their dinner is. It does not address turn in times nor meats being cooked. What amenities will be provided? What is the pay-off schedule? They are asking the teams to cook an extra pork butt for their dinner. Are they providing the meat? I think there was something about sampling. What are the details on that? Do we need an Idaho Food Handlers Card for that? Etc. |

Aww man, JD, I was hoping you could make it over. Dang it. We need to fill this comp up, have to check on who we have registered so far as we have a board meeting tonight to talk about all the family events planned. This will be a pretty big deal for the whole county.
we were hoping to Greg...just not in the cards... hey...Judy is asking for. Team count...you might want to post a thread over in Roll-Call then send her a link so she can keep track. Have you made any progress on the Governor Proclamation? cheers! JD |

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 15:14:11 I think that there is a high probability that you will see my smoker and truck in the parking lot that weekend. Now that the smelters are gone, someone needs to smoke out the neighborhood! |

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 06:23:02 It is right at the base of the Silver Mountain gondola, at the school parking lot next to the condos. There will be power, water, ice and probably runners for extra needs. We are working on making it a total community event to be held annually. It would be great to have you at the event. |

Posted - 05/09/2012 : 07:34:55 This sounds like it could be fun. Where in Kellogg is it being held? |
