Posted - 06/28/2012 : 12:08:36 I finally have some time to say thank you to everyone who participated in our Festival. It was sure a lot of fun and congrats to all who took home a prize. Anthony and Christene you two rock! Pat -I don't think Betty would let you put shoes on her feet for love nor money. I have never seen her in a pair unless she's on her bike. Your post really made me laugh, thanks for that! I have posted links to some photos on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/badassbbqvancouver We are having our first meeting for next year in a couple weeks, see you all then or in Whistler! |

Posted - 06/24/2012 : 21:43:49 Thank you Dave, Wayne, and the Cascades Casino for a wild, wet, wonderful, and fantastic weekend. Wayne thanks for the wood. It was great seeing everyone. Special thanks to the folks that helped save our canopies from taking flight despite being tied together with 6 20# legs weights attached. We had a fantastic time. Anthony & Christene did a fabulous job as head judges. Thanks to all of you that stopped to help us and your kind words of support. A huge thank you to Chris Kelly for stepping up at the last minute to help us cook this event. We were seriously considering dropping out after fracturing my ankle Wednesday night.
Congrats to House of Q for taking GC, Smokey's BBQ for taking RGC and Wine Country Q for taking Reserve Champion.
Time for a shower, drugs, and sleep. For tomorrow there is work. |

Also, is the 12x18 tray limit for both the burger and for the Chef's Choice? |

Posted - 06/12/2012 : 14:06:21 Special Categories Update
Burger can be anything that fits between a bun. No protein or veggie restriction. Garnished and dressed in any fashion as long it fits on your 12 x18 platter or a turn in clam shell, is not tippy or to heavy. No drinks are allowed with your turn in. Description cards are encouraged.
Homestyle Chili will be ground pork courtesy of Johnston's Fresh Quality Pork. No restriction on other ingredients as long as they fit into your turn in cup. In order to add value to our sponsor a recipe card must be submitted with your entry. This recipe will be posted on Johnston's web promotions. They have also requested your logo, any bio info and web address that they can add to their promotions to promote your team. This latter info will be requested following the awards and can be submitted shortly after the event. If anyone has a problem with this please let me know. Johnston's has been very involved in supporting BBQ competitions in BC and we as competitors should support their continued involvement.
Chefs Challenge Surf and Turf will include a whole fillet of either Sea Bream or Arctic Char for the Surf portion sponsored by Albion Fisheries. Teams will pick from two blind boxes and will receive a whole fillet of one or the other. Gotta love a challenge! The Turf portion of the Challenge will be a 1 kilo Canadian grass fed bison roast courtesy of Mark Hills from Hills Foods. Any presentation and garnish is allowed as long as it fits on your platter or clam shell, is not too heavy or tippy. Drinks are not allowed. Description cards are encouraged.
We hope everyone is good with the special categories, now let's get ready to have some fun!

Posted - 06/04/2012 : 11:01:36 The chef challenge will be meat and fish or surf and turf. The fish sponsor is out of town till tomorrow so I can't be more specific till then. As soon as I know the fish we will pick the meat. I will post here as soon as I have details, sorry for the delay but we are at the mercy of our sponsors. |

Posted - 06/04/2012 : 09:16:45 Are there any details on the mystery meat for the chef's challenge? I might have missed it somewhere along the way. |

Posted - 05/31/2012 : 21:27:36 Who needs wood? Some may not be comfortable discussing this but seeking wood shouldn't have to be an embarrassing taboo. I know Bryan from Deadman needs some... I've booked a half pick up of cherry to be dropped off Sat AM $200. -I'll work him a bit when I call to double confirm. PM me if you like to keep your needs a little more quiet. First come first served. |

Posted - 05/29/2012 : 22:57:07 WOOT! Way to Go. We will be happy to cook pork up for the fire fighters. |

Posted - 05/29/2012 : 22:21:47 No need to get your BC Food Handlers at this event everyone is working under ours (Dave & Mine) Sponsors will be getting us to cook some Pull pork but it will be for the Fire Fighters to hand out. Entry cost should help out the budget:) and definitely the prize money. Just remember this is for a great cause. |

You know we were up there for the Cloverdale Rodeo. If I were unattached there were definately some public that I'd like to sample. <BG> Saturday night they were definately out to play.
wrt sampling food to the public (as opposed to just sampling the public themselves), are sponsors kicking in some meat for Saturday? (helps with budgetting)
I've been talking with Johnstons about buying meat directly from them. Support the sponsors and fewer hassles at the border. If anyone else is interested shoot me an e-mail for the contact information.
For those that need Canadian Food Handler cards: http://www.foodsafe.ca/foodsafe_level1 Umm Hmm $110 (yes one hundred and 10 dollars) for a level 1 card seems a bit excessive. Would the Washington State Food handlers card be considered the equivilent?
