Hello Frank,
Welcome.
In case you aren't aware of the general lay-out around here, the Cloverdale event is about as close to you as anything except last month's Monroe and Snohomish events.

Hello all My name is Ram I am in the military here in Oak Harbor and have been looking for cook offs to participate in and learn the ins and out up here. I am originally from Texas and have been on the smokers since 1995. I am currently in progress of building my own smoker on a trailer and it has been fun doing so. I have 3 other smokers out in the back yard that i have been cooking on till this new one that i am building. Now comes the time that i am looking to really get into but being in the military is kinda hard to participate in but when i get a chance i would be all over it. i would love to hear from all on how things are done up here since in Texas its way different but i am all ears. I do all kinds of smoking and make my own BBQ sauce as well. I have such a passion for cooking but need to network some more up here. Cant wait to get started up here.

Hi. I'm Robin Atkins. I have a Weber kettle and a Traeger Junior (that's all I can fit on the back of my deck at my apartment). I am looking forward to learning more about the world of competition BBQ, although I don't plan on competing, but may help compete with my friend Chris Kelly if he ever puts a team together. He and I just took the April 15th judging class. I am very excited about getting to judge as I love to eat and even better, I love to eat good 'Q. We are participating in the upcoming weekend event in Monroe - Saturday to help out at the charity event and on Sunday as a judge for the competition BBQ. Can't wait! Very excited! Nice to meet everybody. Looking forward to going to as many events as I can afford to travel to.

Hi everyone,

My name is Paul and I'm in the Portland area (Tigard). I am still learning BBQ, even though I have culinary background (they don't teach much BBQ in culinary school). I've always been a backyard amateur who mostly grilled, until I fell in love with low and slow. I'm looking to hook up with some people here locally and learn the ropes of competition Q. I look forward to communicating with you here, and hopefully seeing you in the future. Thanks!

Right on Mike. We've got some members near you in the Enumclaw area and Bonny Lake and thereabouts. Don't know when you'll be ready to come compete again but there's a great event shaping up for March 23/24th in Redmond. It's a Whole Hog comp with a bunch of demos (brief classes) plus the basic PNWBA Pitmaster Cooking Class and I think they have a judging class scheduled, too. A lot of us competition cooks take the judging class to understand what's going on after we let go of the entry and then we judge now and then, too. The demo's should be interesting on the 24th and theirs a feast scheduled to dispatch with all of that cook pork. Should be a kick and ought to be a good day to come take in some of the action and instruction. You're climging into a MOST helpful and friendly bunch. Take a look around the forum and you'll get the feel for it and I hope to see you on the competition trail...WELCOME!

Welcome Dave!

If you make it to Oregon during a competition, let me know and I will try to find a place at the judges table for you. By the way, do you happen to have any relatives in Missouri?
Rookie48 Posted - 11/15/2011 : 22:12:35
Hello everyone! I'm Dave Compton from Des Moines, Iowa. I'm a KCBS Master CBJ with over 60 contests judged and I judge between 12 and 15 comps a year, mostly in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. This summer I hope visit different parts of the country in my RV and do some judging along the way - maybe I'll get up to the PNW & meet some of you.
